If you don’t know what the Indie Culture, here is brief history:
Indie rock established itself as a music genre in the 1980s when bands such as Pixies and Sonic Youth, who didn’t experience much mainstream commercial success, achieved a level of critical acclaim and cult following amongst alternative rock fans. Indie music defines itself as being necessarily against major record labels, arising from the era of hardcore punk when bands such as Minor Threat, Black Flag and Bad Brains all defined themselves by their independent spirit, releasing their own records on small labels, booking their own concerts and creating a DIY attitude in punk music. In the United States, those early independent bands would later be described as alternative or college rock bands.

In the UK, indie indie rock bands of the 1980s included The Smiths and Joy Division. In the 1990s, Britpop bands such as Oasis, Blur, and Ocean Colour Scene were associated with the indie scene. The indie rock revival of the 2000s was spearheaded by bands such as The Libertines and The Strokes, but received mainstream appeal with bands such as Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party, Kate Nash, Editors and Razorlight. Some British music publications, notably the weekly magazine NME, focus specifically on this genre and have been influential in the publication of now-successful indie acts.

In Canada, Montreal, Quebec is home to a well-developed indie music scene, merging influences from France, the UK, and the United States. In 2004, Pitchfork Media and Spin Magazine dubbed Montreal North America’s “Next Big Scene”, due to bands such as Arcade Fire, The Unicorns, Land of Talk, Islands, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, A Silver Mount Zion, The Stills, The Dears, The Besnard Lakes, Kiss Me Deadly, Wolf Parade, Stars and Sunset Rubdown.

Having proved his mettle with Sunset’s Skybar, uber-club owner Peter Famulari goes to the next level in Hollywood with Boulevard 3. He claims his new it-spot (so “counterclub” even its buzz is pretty hush-hush) is part Studio 54, part Hollywood house party. Indeed, the feel is “vedy propah” English manor-house, with crisp white furniture next to rich mahogany woods, a fireplace and cabana courtyard by the pool. Kind of like raving at Madonna’s London estate might be. The Studio 54 heyday part comes in with the clubs exclusivity. You can’t just request bottle service to reserve one of the second-floor balcony suites (think mini bar, personal Xbox); you have to own one or be an invited guest. And without any advertised regular DJ nights, the entertainment is left to the whim of Famulari, which means velvet rope access is a no-guarantee situation on any given night. The drinks are a little pricier, but it is completely worth it. Just incase if you are wondering what to wear, the dress code is trendy/dressy/casual.
